The Highland Scramble

The Highland Scramble is a meticulously curated motorcycle tour through the Scottish Highlands crafted with local knowledge & expertise by the team at Bikerbnb. Highland Scramble riders know that they not only will explore some of the best riding in the world, but will also stay in sustainable accommodation, enjoy locally sourced Scottish food and drink and experience world-class hospitality. There are over ten tours that run each season which focus on different parts of the West and North Coast of Scotland, each tailored to suit a diverse spectrum of different motorcyclists. This year, they have even added an Iberian Scramble to explore the Catalonian region of Spain. Now in its 3rd year, these unique Scottish events have become popular with both local & overseas riders and have gained support from celebrity endorsers like Charley Boorman & Joe Wicks. 

Bikerbnb approached me to create a poster to advertise the 2022 season as a whole and a series of event-specific posters to reflect the key features of the different rides. These pieces are featured across their website and social media but also available as prints to purchase as a memorable keepsake for the riders. Each poster is an eye-catching visual to push riders to enquire but also serves as a cohesive set of artworks that motorcyclists can showcase in their homes & garages.

Since their socials rely heavily on the photography from previous events, I chose to use a distinctive illustration style and colour palette to differentiate the posters from their regular posts. It is also a fitting medium to feature all the key product sponsors in a way that is visually engaging and not conducive of typical product placement (e.g., Royal Enfield, Big Green Egg, Bell Tents).

Each year, an iconic Scottish location & animal is chosen to feature on the main poster. This year I chose to illustrate The Kylesku Bridge on the north-west of Scotland as it is one of the most memorable scenes of The Highland Scramble. The Scottish Terrier is also a nod to the tour leader’s dog Munro who often comes along to the events.

The campaign has been successful so far, with many of the events selling out within days of announcement.
