Summary

In early 2022, Stallan-Brand Architecture + Design Ltd (along with LDA Design, Momentum and Savills) were appointed by Dundee City Council to prepare an illustrative strategic plan for Dundee’s city centre. There are five interconnected themes that have been established, alongside the adoption of guiding principles, to ensure a holistic approach. 1. Living Theme 2. Working Theme 3. Visiting Theme 4. Connectivity Theme 5. Public Realm Theme As well as identifying strategic site wide opportunities, our plan breaks the city centre into five distinct study areas; allowing for a better understanding of how different initiatives could contribute to broader placemaking themes in each part of the city centre. The five study areas are; • Learning Quarter • Western Quarter • Central Waterfront • Eastern Quarter • Commercial Core The proposed strategy identifies a number of areas for potential investment across the city centre; • Adaptive re-use of existing council owned car parks to encourage modal shift towards sustainable transport modes. • Delivering new homes and public spaces within the city centre • Improved connectivity at key gateways into the city centre • Strengthening physical links to the University Campus • Improving crossings around the inner city ring road • Enhancing the sense of arrival into the city • Harnessing the potential of key cultural and heritage assets • Managing traffic movement to improve the public realm along key routes
