Summary

Why Indoor Air?

From a young age we’re taught the basics of healthy living, things like drinking plenty of clean water, eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise. So why is it that most of us know more about the beans in our morning coffee than the air we breathe in our homes? The issue is that modern lifestyles means that we spend 90% of our time indoors where studies show that the air can be five times more polluted than outdoor air. A recent US study found that 9 in 10 homes have at least one main pollutant above recommended levels. Current air quality monitors on the market are confusing, un-engaging and people don’t really know what the data means for them.

That’s where nooku comes in. We thought that the time was right to redefine what air quality monitoring can be. We’re on a mission to make everyone an Air Quality Champion by creating engaging and predictive air quality monitors that become an essential part of living a healthy life.

Nooku was designed to be more than just an air quality monitor. Think of nooku as your personal trainer, like Strava or Fitbit for Indoor Air Quality. By enabling you to understand and take control of your air, nooku can help combat asthma and allergies, improve sleep quality and concentration, limit harmful pollution entering the home and prevent mould and damp. nooku’s patent pending modular design allows you to easily build the right system for your home. Place the base Monitors in different rooms and simply snap-on / snap-off the Guide unit when needed to add increased sensing and real time feedback with the interactive touchscreen.

What’s with the bear?

Because we truly believe in the power of play for behaviour change. Studies have shown that multigenerational learning is proven to increase positive habit forming by over 60%. The magnetic character caps instantly transform nooku into your friendly sidekick. Gamified challenges and educational content encourage inclusive, long term engagement and positive behaviour change with the entire household.

Beyond the home, nooku is working with partners to provide air quality monitoring within UK schools as part of a wider climate change education programme, promoting air quality awareness and the importance of a healthy learning environment.
