Summary
Located to the west end of Dundee Street and spanning south onto Dundee Terrace, this gushet site sits at a juncture between the established districts of Merchiston, Dalry, Fountainbridge and Slateford. The traditional Edinburgh tenement surroundings have the distinctive form and strong rhythm that can be found across the Scottish capital.
The development consists of purpose-built-managed- student-accommodation alongside a retail unit that is earmarked for use by a local charity. The proposed layouts provide a highly accessible residence that is spread over 8 storeys (including two below ground).
Working closely with our design team partners and client, continuous design assessment has ensured the resulting form and detail responds to all opportunities and constraints. Through these collaborative studies we have provided an organic form and aesthetic that reflects the movement, flow and dynamism of the site’s history, surroundings and geometry. The building will complete the fragmented streetscape and realise the potential for place making on this forgotten island site.
