Summary
Civerinos is an independent pizzeria, offering a street culture-fuelled take on New York slice bars, in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
What makes Civerinos, Civerinos? It’s a culture-led brand, heavily inspired by the founder's passion for ‘90’s street culture, hip hop music, iconic films, skateboarding, family, and community.
Having grown organically, Civerinos needed new branding and further definition to ensure a consistent brand voice and aesthetic, whilst also allowing creativity and variation across each individual restaurant.
S+Co developed a confident, unapologetic brand identity with references to ‘90’s lo-fi fanzines and street art. The branding is supported by chequered patterns, bespoke graffiti tags, and handwritten taglines.
Each restaurant embraces its own look and feel, dialling up different elements of the Civerinos brand, determined by its neighbourhood, and the characteristics of the site. When they acquired a new location in Stockbridge, an opportunity arose to create a concept that was more family-focused and authentically New York Italian. Sopranos was a big influence here, and a suite of bespoke supporting brand assets were created to bring Civerinos to life in this context.
The façade stands out as a piece of New York on Stockbridge High Street, with bespoke projected signs and signwriting, all Sopranos inspired. Inside, the concept continues from a retro Italian chef neon light, to a curated family photo wall, iconic poster collection, and ‘90’s prop styling.
We also created playful sub-brands inspired by references such as Supreme which were applied to bespoke skateboards and staff t-shirts, allowing the brand identity to have flexibility and further expression. On completion of the project, we art directed a shoot for further marketing materials, using direct flash photography style and more creative compositions.
The brand here is more than just a logo, it’s a broad concept that touches every part of the restaurant with consideration. S+Co created the concept, brand and interiors, and also provided architectural support for this project, showcasing how all are relatable and when considered holistically, create an impactful experience reflecting the shift in hospitality trends and the reason the founder created a brand like Civerinos.
