Summary
Scottish Gantry's Edinburgh outlet, under the passionate stewardship of Kevin Moore, embodies the spirit of Scottish whisky and fine spirits. Beyond a mere retail space, it's a curated experience, where the rich heritage of Scotland's distilleries is celebrated.
The challenge lay in transforming a long, narrow unit with a humble façade into a welcoming and engaging space. While the exterior was understated, a large roof light offered a natural opportunity to zone the interior. The design capitalised on this, creating distinct areas that guided customers through the spirits selection.
In the entry area we placed the till station and a place for an inviting introduction to the diverse whisky offerings. A central spine, defined by repetitive vertical posts, runs through the unit. This modular approach allows for dynamic displays, creating flexible bays for showcasing 8 to 12 brands or themed selections throughout the year.
The shop's new façade, coupled with a dynamic, brand-driven window display, ensures high visibility and attracts passersby. This ever-changing window acts like a stage for the brands themselves.
Kevin's personal style, a deep appreciation for heritage and vintage aesthetics, informed the interior's rich and dark finish. Rejecting contemporary blandness, the design celebrates craftsmanship, mirroring the artistry of the whiskies themselves. The warm, inviting atmosphere reflects Kevin's commitment to personalised service, where each customer is guided to discover their perfect dram.
To enhance the ambiance, the lighting was carefully calibrated to create a warm and inviting glow, highlighting the intricate details of the displays and creating a sense of intimacy. The design's success lies in its ability to balance the authenticity of Scottish whisky heritage with a modern, customer-centric approach.
