Summary

We worked with established restaurateurs Vittoria Group to transform a newly acquired venue into a bold, playful take on the British fish and chip experience—one that balanced coastal nostalgia with a refined city-centre aesthetic. The challenge was to craft an interior that felt instantly familiar yet excitingly fresh, evoking the joy of a seaside escape while seamlessly fitting into Edinburgh’s dynamic urban landscape.

The interior design embraced “Seaside Chic”, a concept that blended traditional seaside motifs with modern sophistication. The result was a space that transported guests to the coast through texture, colour, and playful detailing, all while ensuring functionality, comfort, and flow. The scheme took inspiration from classic striped deckchairs, featuring bold coastal blues, sandy neutrals, and playful pops of coral. These were complemented by rustic wood panelling, soft leathers, and ceramic tiles, adding warmth and authenticity while maintaining a clean, modern edge. Layered lighting balanced industrial-style fixtures with softer, ambient elements, ensuring the space transitioned effortlessly from a bright, welcoming daytime setting to an intimate, glowing evening atmosphere. A combination of vintage-inspired patterns and durable modern materials created a visually striking foundation that was both stylish and built for high foot traffic. Custom-designed seating echoes classic seaside kiosks, with curved forms and natural finishes providing a tactile, inviting feel. A mix of communal tables, cozy booths, and outdoor picnic-style seating offer flexibility, catering to families, groups, and solo diners alike.

Throughout the space, playful nods to British seaside culture delight guests with unexpected moments of nostalgia. We commissioned bespoke murals from local artists, reimagining Edinburgh landmarks with a coastal twist, such as sandcastles shaped like Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat transformed into rolling dunes, creating a fusion of familiar and fantastical. The decor was carefully curated to evoke joyful childhood memories, with retro beach buckets, nautical rope accents, and vintage seaside postcards woven into the design. Even the smallest details, from menus to serving pieces, were designed to enhance the seaside theme, ensuring a cohesive and immersive experience.

By seamlessly blending charm, practicality, and refinement, the reimagined venue has become a standout destination in Edinburgh’s dining scene. Every element of the design was crafted to elevate the customer experience—from the eye-catching interiors to the effortless functionality of the space. The transformation offers guests not just a meal, but a sensory escape to the seaside-right in the heart of the city.
