Summary
LightMedium was commissioned to design the lighting for the new Edinburgh Gin Distillery, housed within the historic arches of Market Street. The brief called for a bold, immersive lighting experience that would complement a series of architecturally rich and atmospheric spaces—ranging from tasting rooms and the still house to the rooftop terrace, retail area, and gin lab.
Working in close collaboration with the wider consultant and contractor team we developed a lighting strategy that responded to the materiality, spatial qualities, and visitor journey throughout the distillery. Our design aimed to express the brand’s modern and adventurous spirit while supporting the functional needs of each space.
Energy efficiency and intelligent lighting control were key considerations. We specified high-performance, low-energy fixtures and a flexible control system, enabling seamless scene-setting that adapts to time of day and tour type—enhancing ambience while managing energy use effectively.
Custom architectural lighting details and bespoke pendant designs were created for signature moments within the experience. These tailored elements helped deliver a cohesive visual narrative, guiding guests through a dynamic and memorable exploration of Edinburgh Gin’s world.
