Happy to be involved with judging in Scotland, Northern Ireland or England. Although Practice based in Edinburgh we travel all over UK. Originally from Northern Ireland and spend a lot of time there but majority of work in Scotland and England. I am cutting down workwise and have given up my role of MD and want to give something back to the Profession. Have been a Director or Partner in an Architectural Company from 28 years of age over 30 years. Founder of Stephen + Boyle and Susan Stephen Architects.

On RIAS Competitions Committee during selection of Benson and Forsyth National Museum for Scotland and Miralles Scottish Parliament. Lectured at Edinburgh as guest lecturer for Part 3 students on several occasions. Spoke at several Women in Property functions/ Edinburgh Architectural Assoc. (EAA committee member 1996-2000). Experience of all building types which is illustrated by awards won/ listed below and can be seen from website. As you will see we are a design based Practice with projects covering new build, conservation and refurbishment throughout the UK.

  • 2017 Scottish Property Award Commercial Category -Willowbank Student Housing, Glasgow.
  • 2017 Civic Trust Award – Dalkeith Corn Exchange / new office development for Melville Housing Assoc.(in assoc with MLA)
  • 2017 RIAS special Award – Dalkeith Corn Exchange / new office development for Melville Housing Assoc. (in assoc with MLA)
  • 2014 RICS Student Accommodation Award-Gateway Apartments, Edinburgh.
  • 2012 What House Award for best residential Development in UK. – Trinity Park Gardens, Edinburgh.
  • 2000 Regeneration award 2000-Braeside Nursing Home for RNIB- Braeside House, Edinburgh.
  • 1991 RIAS Regeneration Award for Milestone House Aids Hospice -new build Aids Hospice.
  • 1994 Saltire Society Award for Keltneyburn Mill Perthshire – refurbishment and restoration.
  • 1993 Assoc. for Protection of Rural Scotland Award for Mains of Comrie, Aberfeldy – restoration from ruins.
  • 1981 Dundee Civic Design Award ( nee Susan Williams)- Final Year Student Award.

Judging Experience

On RIAS Competitions Committee during selection of Benson and Forsyth National Museum for Scotland and Miralles Scottish Parliament. Judging EAA awards whilst on EAA committee 1996-2000.
