Summary

To support the work that Play is undertaking in 21/22 they wanted to create a poster campaign that reflected their principles, creativity, passion and storytelling. Inspired by the stories that Football has to tell we worked with them to create a series of pieces that communicated their knowledge of and passion for the game.

The poster campaign is built around the consistent graphic language of the Play brand, anchoring the design within the brand style, while at the same time providing flexibility to develop individual concepts around each story.

The design features consistent elements that provide a unifying strategy across each poster. Each poster features a reduced colour palette that is reflective of the Play mono brand scheme, with two colours brought in for each narrative.

The posters use graphics taken from each story to create a storytelling narrative across all 11 pieces.

Collina - Uses the colours of a referee’s cards combined with a representation of the sound pitch of a whistle

Schlee - The design features the colours and style from the Brazil kit illustrated in a graphic format, combined with a Football pitch

Telstar - The Telstar is represented by the inspiration behind the ball design, the 1962 Telecommunications satellite

Yashin - The career of the only goalkeeper to win the Balon d’Or celebrated through infographics and imagery

Predator - The design represents the culture and texture of the revolutionary boot

Makana FA - Established during South African apartheid on the Robben Island prison, illustrated through traditional South African patterning

Rose Reilly - The only professional Scottish footballer to have won the World Cup, which she did for her adopted country Italy, in 1984

Kazuyoshi Miura - At 54, the oldest top-flight professional football player in the world represented through the word ‘hero’ (his nickname) in Japanese

IBSA Blind Football Championships - Celebrating the achievements of blind players across the globe through a graphic representation of sound

The Golden Team - The story of the Hungarian national team who helped define modern football as we know it

La Bombonera - Graphically celebrating the frenetic culture and the design of one of the most iconic venues in Football

The campaign was shared with prospective and current clients to promote Play as a creative force in the Football space and the OOH poster campaign, placed significant Football locations, is accompanied by a book to drive exposure and awareness.
