art, symbolism and poetry

A worker cooperative wholesaler based in Dennistoun has brightened up its quiet corner of the east end by commissioning a colourful mural to set out its values and ethos.

Greencity Wholefoods commissioned Cobalt Collective for the eye-catching work, spanning the entire front facade of their offices. Serving to lift spirits and make a statement the piece shouts out the presence of the worker-owned business, its members and artists studios.

Celebrating nature and cooperative values the vegetarian business recruited Glasgow-based mural artists Erin Bradley-Scott, Chelsea Frew and Kat Loudon of Cobalt Collective to realise their vision.

Erin Bradley-Scott of Cobolt Collective commented: “It was an absolute pleasure getting to know some of the dedicated team members of Greencity, who kindly shared stories and memorabilia from the company’s impressive grassroots history, and of their personal experiences working there. Their stories provided a wealth of inspiration which we captured

through the use of bespoke poetry (written by Sorley Mackay), playful illustrations, simple geometric shapes, and a contrasting colour pallet. The result is an authentic portrayal of Greencity’s bold, progressive, and impactful presence in the food industry. From Cobolt to Greencity, more power tae ye.”

Incorporated within the giant artwork is a wealth of symbology to represent the collective ethos, essence, feelings and characteristics of Greencity Wholefoods.
