Gladstone’s Land is a historic tenement building and merchant’s house situated on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, with over 500 years of commercial and residential occupancy. Drinkall Dean were commissioned to transform an under-performing National Trust for Scotland venue into a multi-use visitor attraction, including a luxury ice cream and coffee parlour at street level, and redevelop the upper floor apartments into luxury accommodation. Cabins in the City Limited

43-45 Comely Bank Place was a commercial unit built in the early 1900’s. Most recently it operated as a sauna until purchased in 2014 by a developer who planned to convert it into a three bedroomed residential dwelling.  Work started in 2014 saw multiple partial structural changes. 12 months in, work stopped, remaining static for six years until I purchased in 2020. As a shell, the property offered the opportunity to explore options away from conforming to the surrounding tenements. […]

This ground-floor retail space for vegan fashion retailer treen is located in the heart of Stockbridge, Edinburgh, near the remnants of a façade from a 19th-century market hall. The architectural language aims to reflect treen’s sustainable ethos, with an emphasis on warm, natural materials like clay plaster and Scottish ash wood. Extensive removal of previous internal alterations revealed softly curved walls and multi-layered textures that reflect the spaces original use as a grocery store.
